Your social media content could use a refreshing? You want to make your brand standout in the feed, but you don’t have the resources to create content. Canva’s AI Toolbox and Agorapulse Integration allows you to create, edit and publish eye-catching social media images faster than ever.
This guide will cover all the information you need about Canva’s AI features so that you can create more efficiently and schedule your content using Agorapulse.
AI and Social Media Marketing: What You Need to Know
Canva AI, for example, can save your social media team a great deal of time. Before you integrate these tools into your workflow, however, it is important to be aware of some possible drawbacks.
1. Limiting creativity
If you are used to creating social media content using staged photos or graphics created by your design team, implementing AI into your workflow might feel like a cheat. You may even be concerned that AI will compromise your creative ability on social media.
You can address these concerns by establishing guardrails within your team. Consider these questions as you create a creative process.
Will you only use AI to edit images or will you also use generative AI? Will you publish AI-generated pictures or will you include a human touch?
Canva’s AI features are integrated with the design tools of the app, which is my personal favorite. Canva makes it easy to use AI tools to edit or create an image. You can then customize it to fit your brand within the app.
2. Possible inaccuracies
Nearly all AI tools include a disclaimer stating that the technology may not be completely accurate. These statements should be taken seriously as AI content can often contain errors that need to be identified and corrected manually.
Social media managers should be aware that publishing incorrect content can lead to confusion among customers and even distrust of the brand.
Create a checklist for your team to avoid these problems.
Before using AI tools, research the topic. You might want to use AI tools to create a photo for a location like La Jolla Cove. You can browse photos of the scene from trusted sources to get a better idea. Create prompts that are as precise as possible. You can use the research that you have done to provide more detail to your prompt. Try something different than “photo of La Jolla Cova” and try “sea Lions at La Jolla Cove, with big waves as the background.” Get at least two members to sign off. Check for errors after generating the AI image. After the content passes your test, ask another member of your team to sign it before publication.
Canva’s Terms of Service prohibits users from presenting AI-generated images to others as their own.
3. Perpetuating biases
AI creates content from existing images. Therefore, biases present in images could appear in AI content that you create.
It’s your job as a marketer who uses AI to avoid perpetuating these biases.
Say, for example, that your client wants to use images of bus drivers in their social media campaigns. Use more descriptive words to create more inclusive and less biased content if you find that many of the results are similar.
Canva does not allow users to use AI tools for harmful purposes.
Canva AI tools for social media marketers: Six Canva tools that you should try
Once you’ve established your design process, you can start using Canva AI-powered tools. Many of these tools are free until May 2023. However, some will require a Pro subscription.
1. Text-to-image generator
Canva’s native text-to image generator creates images and photos from scratch. You only need a text prompt. The more specific the better.
Create a new Canva design by clicking on the Create a Design icon in the main dashboard. In this example, let’s use a square aspect for an Instagram post.
You can leave the design blank or choose a template, or design your own. In this example, let’s use one of Canva’s Instagram post templates.
You can add the Text-to-Image Generator to your toolbar by clicking Use in the left-hand menu. Click Use on the app to add it to your Toolbar.
You’re now ready to give it a command. You can use as many details as possible to describe what you’d like the AI app create. Since you will choose the style from a list, you can ignore any details related to style.
Review the AI-generated images by clicking Create Your Image. You can immediately add the images to your design if you like them.
If you’re not happy with what you see you have two options. Click Create Again to try the same prompt again, or choose a different style.
In this example, I used a variety of tactics. To clarify my color palette, I first added “blue”. After that, I tried several different styles until I came up with one I liked.
You can edit an image in Canva using your favorite design tricks after you have created it. You can, for example, add filters, change settings or transparency levels. You can also animate the images. I use this feature to convert photos into videos.
2. Magic Design
You want to create a template that represents your brand, but you don’t have a design team in-house? Magic Design allows you to create a template from scratch if you do not find anything that you like in Canva’s library.
You will need to provide source material for this tool. This could be a photo of a product, capturing the essence or your brand, or showcasing a lifestyle image. Choose an image from the Canva dashboard and open Magic Design.
You can upload a brand new image, or select from the files that you have already generated or uploaded. In this example, I’ll use an image of a beach from a royalty free image library.
Magic Design generates a dozen templates automatically for different placements, from Facebook ads to mobile video. Click to customize any of the templates on this dashboard.
If the results don’t match your brand, make some small adjustments to all templates. You can change the theme or color scheme by opening the Style drop-down menu. Choose from themes such as Luxury, Nautical or one of the Style Packages.
Open the Headline drop-down menu and enter the tagline, or call to action that you would like included in all templates. Continue to adjust until you are happy with the results.
Click to download or edit the design. You can easily resize a design to fit different placements if you have a Canva Pro Account.
3. Magic Eraser
You need to quickly change an image or graphic. Magic Eraser allows you to edit out imperfections and objects, or fill backgrounds, in a matter of seconds.
Open the image you wish to edit. Select Edit Photo by clicking on the image that you wish to edit. Select the Magic Eraser in the editing toolbox.
The Magic Eraser will automatically remove and fill in the area when you stop brushing. Once you stop brushing the AI tool will automatically start working to remove the area and fill it in.
This example shows how to remove people and other imperfections from the AI-generated image that I created using Canva’s Text to Image generator.
Click Reset Erasings to remove any edits that you have made. If necessary, try again. Click the left arrow to save your results and return to editing dashboard.
4. Background Remover
Canva’s Background Remover is a great tool to use if you want to remove more than a few spots. This AI tool, available with the Pro plan automatically replaces background content in images.
Create a new image and click on it to edit. Choose BG Remover in the toolbox. Give it a couple of seconds to isolate your subject and remove any background.
You can click the tool again for additional edits. Click here to remove more background or to restore items that have been accidentally removed.
You can make more edits after applying the changes. You can, for example, fill the background with solid colors – like one of the suggestions generated automatically. You can also add another image as a greenscreen.
5. Magic Edit
Want to replace an element in your photo instead of removing it? Magic Edit allows you to easily enhance existing photos. This AI tool will be free of charge as of May 2023.
Create a design using Canva, then click on the image to edit it. Choose Magic Edit in the AI suite and then select the area that you want to edit.
Type what you would like to replace it with. In this example, let’s replace the pillow with one that has a more bold pattern.
Click Generate, then review your options. You can also try again if you are not satisfied with the results.
Magic Edit allows you to add images. You could, for example, add a potted flower to the scene to fill in the blank space and make it more interesting.
Magic Edit works on clothing as well.
We could, for example, replace the white sweater shown in the photo with a gray sweatshirt to create a new aesthetic.
6. Magic Write
Canva’s AI tools are primarily focused on editing images. Magic Write is a great tool for writing captions and text overlays.
Click the star icon in the lower-right corner of any Canva Project to access Magic Write. Enter your prompt and select Magic Write in the list.
Any text generated by the tool will appear on top of your current design. If you’re looking for caption ideas, make a document just for text. Then use Magic Write in that document.
If you want to include a headline or call to action in a graphic, simply edit the AI generated text to fit the image. Be sure to check the text for accuracy and brand voice. You can add style notes and more details to the prompt if it does not sound right.
